Fit For Duty
A fitness for duty assessment (also referred to as a Return-to-Work evaluation) evaluates an individual’s ability to perform the essential functions of their job. It can be part of the pre-employment process or may be initiated for an employee to determine present ability. FFD assessments can help identify if individuals are fully capable of performing their job or assist in identifying workplace accommodations.
Return-to-work evaluations are assessments of individuals who have taken a leave of absence due to emotional or physical concerns. Return-to-work evaluations can identify the timeline for resuming employment as well as determining workplace accommodations.
There are numerous reasons why return-to-work evaluations/assessments are necessary, including:
· To help ensure that an employee is able to safely and effectively perform their job duties after an incident, injury or illness.
· To identify any potential accommodations that may be necessary in order for the employee to be successful in their return to work.
· To determine if an employee is ready to return to work on a full or part-time basis
An FFD or Return to Work Assessment is a three-part assessment that includes:
1. Clinical Interview
Gathering background and clinical history information, through interviews and questionnaires. This will help the therapist gather information about an individual’s background, employment history, educational and work experience, and any relevant personal information.
